Estonia opens diplomatic representation in Mozambique

The Consulate of the Republic of Estonia in the country proceeded, last Wednesday, in Maputo, to the official opening of its diplomatic representation, aiming at the continuity of the strengthening of bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries.

Speaking at the event, the Honorary Consul of Mozambique to the Republic of Estonia, José Dai, said that the opening of this office will capitalize on the potential of that European country to support national development efforts.

For now José Dai informed that the areas of renewable energies, science, technology, and manufacturing industry appear as priorities in the chapter exploring the valences that Estonia can continue to lend to the country.

"The history of cooperation right now is in the area of science and technology. Therefore, this country has been working to support African governments, including ours, in the creation of what is called 'electronic government`, which is to facilitate the lives of citizens and simplify government transactions," said José Dai, quoted by the newspaper Notícias.

He added that Estonia is a major contributor to the European Union mission that supports in training the national Defense and Security Forces to fight terrorism in the northern region and in Cabo Delgado province in particular.

"There is already a relationship between these two countries and what we as a consulate want to do is to take this relationship to higher levels," Dai stressed.

For her part, the director of the Middle East, Africa and Latin America Political Department at the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ingrid Amer, said that in light of the strengthening of this bilateral cooperation, her country is open to supporting Mozambique in various areas, as long as it is in the interest of the national authorities.
