Joe Biden stumps as he tries to talk to Saudi and Emirati leaders

The leaders of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) rejected requests for talks made by US President Joe Biden as the war in Ukraine intensified.

According to "The Hill," which quotes the Wall Street Journal, Biden has given up on calling Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

"There was an expectation of a connection, but that did not happen," the paper writes.

UAE leader Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed also declined a call from Biden.

Officials said that U.S. relations with the two Gulf countries have been strained due to the Biden administration's lack of support in the Yemen war and the resumption of negotiations regarding the Iran nuclear deal.

Saudi Arabia would have likewise ignored Biden because the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, who is accused of killing a journalist in 2018.

A US official said he had worked with the two countries to strengthen their defenses amid concerns about Iran, according to the portal.

The US has been rallying international support for Ukraine as some countries have remained neutral on the Russian invasion.

Washington is looking at Iran, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela for oil talks as it is cutting Russian imports.

Both Saudi Arabia and the UAE have said that they will not produce more oil than has been agreed by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.
