Four individuals were shot dead by the National Criminal Investigation Services (SERNIC) this afternoon, in the Jonasse neighborhood, in the municipality of Matola Rio, Maputo province, in the rescue of a Portuguese businessman and the son of a businessman.áriver. Those rescued "are victims of the kidnappings that took place on August 5, near the Termius hotel, and October 29 in Maputo city, of a Portuguese citizen. They were rescued alive, with no visible injuries," said the SERNIC spokesperson.
Hilario Lole, meanwhile, said that the victims would undergo tests to "assess their physical and mental state of health".
The criminals were killed during an exchange of gunfire in a house used as captivity. Two were shot in the backyard of the house, one inside and one outside after trying to escape.
At the scene, SERNIC found an AKM-type firearm, bullets, padlocks and chains, suitcases (briefcases). A white Toyota car, model Ractis, color white, AGN 627 MP, was found at the scene. Its windows had been smashed during the exchange of fire.
SERNIC invited the press to witness the events.
SERNIC spokesman Hilário Lole said that this was the result of the corporation's coordinated work in Maputo city and province.
He said that, after confirming that the house was being used as a safe house for kidnap victims, the agents had no choice but to enter it. He said that the agents assigned to the operation were met with gunfire, but responded promptly, fatally shooting four members of the gang.
"They've all been shot. There was no other option for the officers here," he said.
He said that the information held by SERNIC could lead to the identification of the perpetrators of these kidnappings.
"Some information is already in our database. It's a question of working in coordination with the various sectors that can help us identify these individuals," he said.
SERNIC will also be working to identify the owners of the house used as captivity, as well as checking the history of those who have lived there.
