EU sources remind EFE that since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Ukraine has been unable to issue bonds on the international financial market to cover its needs and has suffered from the withdrawal of private investment.
The Commission stressed that the emergency macro-financial assistance program "will significantly contribute to improving Ukraine's macroeconomic stability in the context of Russia's unprovoked and unjustified invasion."
Commission President Ursula von der Leyen conveyed to the Ukrainian president that "Ukraine's European journey has already begun, and moments like these require vision, firmness, and resilience to take one difficult step after another."
Data from the United Nations indicates that some 13 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in Ukraine.
