The Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office for Counter-Terrorism, Vladimir Voronkov, intends to visit Mozambique to follow developments in the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado more closely.
The announcement was made by Verónica Macamo, who was speaking at a press conference on her visit to the United Nations, as part of Mozambique's presidency of the Security Council.
According to Radio Mocambique, the date of the trip is not yet known, but it is known that Voronkov intends to take a closer look at the results achieved in recent years in the fight against terrorism in the country.
Verónica Macamo was at UN Headquarters to lead the session on the Role of Women and Youth in Peacekeeping and Security. She argued that young people and women can play a fundamental role in conflict prevention, and hopes that this and other ideas shared will be followed up within the UN.
Mozambique takes over its second monthly presidency of the Security Council from tomorrow (31.01).
