Just over 50 forestry companies in Sofala province will close their doors this year due to the financial crisis caused by the covid-19 pandemic.
The fact was advanced by the director of the provincial services of Environment, in Sofala, Ermelinda Mackenzie, who showed concern about the situation.
According to Mackenzie, quoted by Radio Mozambique, in addition to the pandemic situation, natural disasters have also contributed to the bankruptcy of some logging companies.
In the meantime, the person in charge is optimistic about the economic recovery of the companies in view of the relaxation of some of the covid-19 measures announced by the President of the Republic.
It is mentioned that Sofala province currently has an estimated forest reserve of a little over three million hectares.
