The Rwandan government has decided to abolish the entry visa requirement for all African citizens in order to boost the free movement of people and trade on the continent, the President of Rwanda announced on Thursday.
Paul Kagame made the announcement during the XXIII Global Summit of the World Travel and Tourism Council.
This means that any African citizen can travel by air whenever they want and won't have to pay any fees to enter the country.
"Africans are the future of global tourism, as our middle class will continue to grow at a rapid pace in the coming decades," he said
This measure had already been in place between Rwanda and Mozambique since October last year. The countries signed a visa abolition agreement in Kigali.
The instrument was initialed by the Minister for the Interior, Arsénia Massingue, and the Rwandan Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Vincent Biruta.
Paul Kagame is running to succeed himself as president of the Republic of Rwanda. He says it is the will of the people.
