An Indian businessman was kidnapped this afternoon, at around 2.30pm, on Avenida Eduardo Mondlane, in the Alto Maé district, in the city center of Maputo.

The 50-year-old businessman is said to be the owner of the Luxo e Brinde store. The victim was surprised as he was leaving the store.

The police were close to the scene of the crime, less than a hundred meters away, yet they were unable to prevent the crime from taking place.

The four or so kidnappers were armed and exchanged fire with the police. (Source: STV)
