Almost all companies closed in 2020 due to the pandemic have already reopened

The Minister of Labor and Social Security, Margarida Talapa, said this Monday that more than 97% of the companies that had been closed due to the covid-19 pandemic last year have now reopened.

Without giving concrete figures on the subject, Margarida Talapa, quoted by "O País", revealed that with the reduction of infections, deaths, and hospitalizations by covid-19, and, consequently, the lifting of some restrictions, several companies have reopened their doors in the country.

"We were able to manage and mediate the problems we were having on a day-to-day basis. Today we can reaffirm that 97% of the business institutions that had closed their businesses last year have now resumed operations. The workers have received their severance pay, some have resumed their activities, and we have been able to follow up on the situation, case by case. We haven't had any serious problems," stressed the minister.

However, Margarida Talapa did not give details about the companies that have reopened in the context of the relief from the restrictions imposed by the pandemic.

Margarida Talapa and Alexandre Munguambe and other stakeholders were speaking this Monday, in Maputo City, at the opening of the eleventh National Meeting of the Commission for Labour Mediation and Arbitration. During the event, the Minister of Labour and Social Security presented data on the services provided by Labour Mediation and Arbitration, including compensation paid.
