Maputo province led the way as the country's main tourist destination during the festive season, receiving a total of 148,000 tourists, both foreign and domestic.
The figures were presented a few days ago in Maputo by the national director of Tourism, Cândido Langa, during a conference to take stock of the sector during the festive season, adding that the provinces of Inhambane and Gaza appear in second and third place on the list of main destinations, with 103,000 and 23,000 tourists respectively.
According to Cândido Langa, quoted by the newspaper Notícias, of the 314,000 guests expected, the country registered 324,706 during the period in question, of which around 203,000 were nationals, which means that Mozambicans are increasingly taking advantage of the tourist potential.
According to the source, as a result of this move, the tourism sector collected revenue of 5 billion meticais, compared to 755 thousand in the same period last year.
