The Machipanda Border will now operate 24 hours a day. The new schedule came into force this Monday and is the result of an agreement between Mozambique and Zimbabwe, aimed at decongesting the border post located in Manica province, reports "O País".
The Machipanda border has always opened at 6 a.m. and closed at 8 p.m., a scenario that created inconvenience for motorists, especially long-haul drivers and passengers.
As of Monday, it will be open 24 hours a day, to the satisfaction of users.
"I feel very happy, because if we travel fast, we also earn more money, and I can support my family. This is very good, it's the greatest achievement of our government," said one user, quoted by the newspaper.
"I left Inchope this morning and I'm already crossing into Zimbabwe. 24 hours is very good and we'll travel well," added another user.
The spokesman for Migration in Manica said that the first day had seen a remarkable movement and that more than 100 people crossed the border after 8 p.m. (Source: O País)
