The deputy general commander of the Mozambique Police (PRM), Aquilasse Manda, admitted on Wednesday (12) that the police may have committed some excesses during the demonstrations contesting the election results. The officer promises to review what is wrong within the corporation.
It was after taking office and at a time when society organizations estimate that 600 people may have been killed by the police during the demonstrations against the results of the general elections on October 9, 2024, that the deputy general commander of the corporation, Aquilasse Manda, admitted possible excesses.
"When public order is at stake, when public order is altered, its restoration at some point has created problems and we believe that, in fact, there may have been excesses, but it is one of the situations that we are going to correct," Manda assured, quoted by the RFI.
On the occasion, the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, expressed concern about some situations that threaten the peace of Mozambicans, such as "the armed attacks by terrorists in parts of the northern province of Cabo Delgado - although today of low intensity - combined with the recruitment of children and girls into the ranks of the terrorists".
Meanwhile, the Mozambican head of state wants the police to take strong action against the public disorder resulting from the non-acceptance of the results of the general elections held on October 9 last year.
