Manica: Government to organize artisanal miners into associations and cooperatives

Manica: Governo vai organizar mineradores artesanais em associações e cooperativas

In the next few days, the Council of Provincial State Representation Services (CSPRE) will be able to organize the artisanal miners who exploit natural resources, especially gold, into associations and cooperatives in the Chimanimani National Park, in the district of Sussundenga.

The measure, according to the spokesman for the IV Ordinary Session of the Council of Provincial Services of State Representation in Manica, Agostinho Robate, aims to promote the rational exploitation of natural resources.

Cited by AIMThe source assured that the proposal in this regard is already in the hands of those provincial services, where the problems of illegal mining have been identified, as well as environmental conservation and biodiversity.

"At the moment, there is a need to organize those who exploit in a disorderly manner. The aim is to ensure that we have more organized and rational exploitation," said Robate, denouncing the involvement of people from various parts of the country and abroad in artisanal mining in Manica.

"It's important that our communities are organized for exploitation in the park's buffer zone. This will make it possible to create the conditions for a more sustainable income and more organized productivity," he said.

On the same occasion, Robate explained that the proposal to organize artisanal miners falls under Law 05/2017 of 11 May, which consists of protecting, conserving and sustainably exploiting mineral resources.

"With the organization, we will reduce water pollution in the rivers. What we want to do is raise awareness without coming into conflict with the communities. In order to do this, we need to carry out an in-depth study with the communities to make them aware of the importance of sustainable exploitation," he added.
