Total Petroleum: Government expects positive answer on resumption of activities

The government believes that by the end of this year, there will be a positive response from the Total oil company, regarding the resumption of activities in the Afungi peninsula, Cabo Delgado province, said an official source.

The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, points to the improvement of security conditions as a determining factor for the resumption of the multinational Total's activities.

Carlos Zacarias assured, quoted by Radio Mozambique, that this year the exports of liquefied natural gas to be extracted in the Rovuma basin will begin using the Coral Sul floating platform.

It should be noted that the oil company's activities to start onshore natural gas exploration were interrupted in December 2020, following the terrorist attacks that have been registered in Cabo Delgado province, and are now spreading to Nampula province.
