Who can bear the pain of watching and letting a three-year-old girl swap her childhood games for regular radiotherapy sessions and do nothing?
Three-year-old Lukeny is going through difficult days because of a rare disease that has affected her since birth. What looked like a simple abscess and/or fluid clot in her genital area turned out to be a malignant tumor.
As a result, the girl is not having a childhood as one would expect. Her life is all about lying in bed all day. There are very few moments when she risks standing up and marking the steps of her age.
The girl's parents only became aware of their daughter's situation last year, when she was just two years old. After passing through the Nkobe health center, the girl was transferred to the Matola Provincial Hospital.
"The doctors there said that it was a liquid that could be removed. At that point they gave us two months to remove it. When we came back, the tumor was very large, it even scared the doctors," said the girl's father, Elias A. Foliche.

Due to the seriousness of the situation, the doctors transferred Lukeny to Maputo Central Hospital. At the country's largest hospital, the girl underwent surgery to remove the tumor. The result was the opposite of what was expected, as the girl's father tells us.
"A week after the operation the situation worsened and the tumor tore through the suture lines until it was at the current stage [extremely advanced]," she said, while trying to hide the tears welling up in her eyes.
The situation is getting progressively worse and making the child's life more and more difficult. "She cries endlessly every time she pees" because the tumor has torn her skin and left an open wound.
Now, the only alternative to save the child's life is financial support to guarantee surgery abroad. "I've been contacted by doctors in India and they say that around two million meticais is needed for the surgery."
"So far we've been able to count on the support of a few people. Since we started the campaign about two and a half months ago, we've raised a little over two hundred thousand meticais," said Elias Foliche.

He revealed that, in fact, the time for the surgery has been delayed, meaning that the operation should already have been carried out. "It could only take place in Mozambique if the wound healed, but it tends to get worse, so we depend on the amount."
To minimize the progression of the disease, Lukeny undergoes regular radiotherapy sessions at Maputo Central Hospital. However, it is not known how much longer the situation will prevail and, with no other horizons, the girl's parents are crying out for support in the hope of reversing the situation.
Grade: MZNews urges anyone interested in supporting the family to pay close attention when granting support, namely to check the entity/name of the holder (Elias Armindo Foliche) of the M-pesa or E-mola accounts. In addition, you can call the parents of Lukeny directly for more details on the case.
