A legal source interviewed by the London-based newspaper "Carta" says that it is unlikely that the current President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi will be summoned and tried in London.
Answering the questions posed by "Carta", the source, who is a criminal lawyer, says that based on British law, every Head of State enjoys immunity and Nyusi will benefit from this prerogative, unless the Mozambican state withdraws this immunity, which is unlikely.
The source also recalls that it was within this context that Filipe Nyusi declared himself immune.
When asked by "Carta", given that Nyusi was not the Head of State at the time he is suspected of having received 1 million dollars from Privinvest, the source said that as long as a person is Head of State they are considered to have immunity.
Recently, a news report was published mentioning that a British judge said that the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, should prepare for the trial on the "hidden debts" case next October in London, despite invoking immunity. (Letter)
