Mondlane warns of "unpredictable reactions" to the humiliation of the people

Mondlane alerta para “reações imprevisíveis” face à humilhação do povo

The main opponent of the Frelimo regime, Venâncio Mondlane, warned today of the possible triggering of "unpredictable reactions" by the population due to the systemic humiliations.

"We're once again pointing out that you can't humiliate the people to the point where they see no alternative but an unpredictable reaction that could be very disastrous for this country. This is the warning we wanted to give," he said.

Mondlane was speaking to the press today as he left Quelimane Central Hospital, where he paid a visit in solidarity with Joel Amaral, better known as MC Trufafá, who was hospitalized as a result of an assassination attempt yesterday in the city of Quelimane, Zambezia province.

"You can't humiliate the people to that level," he said, recalling that such colonial humiliation was what led to rebellions against the system and the formation of Frelimo. "It reached the point where we couldn't take it anymore."

According to Mondlane, Daniel Chapo's government "must realize that it is not possible to govern by humiliating and enslaving the people, because the consequences can be unpredictable, very disastrous and very dangerous".
