Mozambique has a deficit of three thousand elementary school teachers this year

The current 2022 school year in the country will start in February with a deficit of three thousand elementary school teachers.

According to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Education and Human Development, quoted by Lusa, the government's plan indicated the need to hire a total of 12 thousand teachers for the new school year, but due to budget limitations only nine thousand will be hired.

"We can't afford to have more teachers, in that hiring is done based on budget availability. So what we normally do is sensitize the teachers to make a little more effort, especially in a period when the pandemic is limiting us in the number of students per class," Gina Guibunda said.

Meanwhile, in the 2022 school year, the Ministry of Education expects an additional 1.3 million new students in primary education, which will bring the total number of students at that level to about eight million.

Data from the Ministry of Education and Human Development, indicate that in public education, the country has a total of 13,337 elementary school and 677 secondary schools.
