The director of the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE) in the city of Matola, his deputy, the provincial director and the chairman of the Electoral Commission of Maputo Province held a meeting on Thursday evening at the provincial STAE.

According to the parties Movimento Democrático de Moçambique (MDM) and Resistência Nacional Moçambicana (Renamo), those figures appointed by the Frelimo party are devising strategies to defraud the recount of votes in the municipality.

On Thursday (19), the Second Chamber of the Matola Judicial Court ordered a recount of the votes in all the polling stations in the Matola municipality. Frelimo had been declared the winner in the city.

Quoted by The CountryThe opponents say that they found boxes containing notices, minutes and ballot papers lying around at the entrance to STAE in Matola.

They said it was a violation of the Electoral Law, which provides for the storage of electoral material in an appropriate place, a warehouse where only delegates from the three parliamentary parties have access to the keys.

The street leading to the provincial STAE was blocked off with two armored vehicles and armed men.
