The national soccer team (Mambas) made its debut with a historic draw against Egypt tonight, 14.01, in the African Nations Championship (CAN), which is taking place in Ivory Coast.
The Pharaohs came out pressing and managed to score the first goal in the first few minutes of the first half, while Mozambique tried to settle down. Egypt's pressure continued until the end of the first half, with Mozambique only reaching the opponent's goal with some sporadic danger.
After the first half ended one-nil in favor of the Pharaohs, everything changed in the second half. Mozambique went from "water to wine" and began to consistently pin their opponents back, also as a result of the right substitutions made by coach Chiquinho Conde.
In less than five minutes, Mozambique managed to score two goals, through Witi and Clésio, and the score was turned around. Realizing this, Egypt tried to pin Mozambique back, but the Mozambican defense intercepted all the Pharaohs' attacks.
In stoppage time, Mahomed Salah scored a penalty against Mozambique to tie the game. It was 2-2, a result that remained unchanged until the end of the match.
This time Mozambique got their first draw against Egypt in the final stages of the CAN, in a game in which they were ahead until the 95th minute.
Ricardo Dimas, the Mambas midfielder, was named man of the match by the CAF, i.e. the best player on the pitch.
The Mambas play again next Friday against Cape Verde at 4pm.
