MADER resumes issuing phytosanitary certificates and licenses

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has resumed issuing phytosanitary certificates and licenses for all products of plant origin.

In a statement quoted by Rádio Moçambique, the institution clarifies that it has temporarily suspended the issuing of these documents in order to protect and safeguard the national interest and the good name of Mozambique in the international market, following recurrent notifications by importing countries due to non-compliance with license requirements, the existence of false certificates and/or irregularities.

Evidence of corruption in the processing of exported agricultural products also led to the temporary suspension of phytosanitary certificates and licenses for all products of plant origin, according to the document.

The MADER note also mentions that regular plant health inspections have detected 400 false and/or dubious phytosanitary certificates for the export of sesame and boer beans, the quantities of which are valued at 27 million dollars.
