Government persists in creating three million jobs for young people by 2024

The Secretary of State for Youth and Employment, Osvaldo Petersburg, maintains that the government's goal remains the creation of three million jobs for young people by 2024.

Osvaldo Petersburg made this pronouncement during the opening of a center for the professional training of young people in various specialties, including mechanics.

Still, for analysts this claim is unrealistic, since every day many young people become unemployed.

For the economist Inocência Mapisse, from the Center for Public Integrity (CIP), "three million jobs is an unrealistic goal, because compared to what has been happening, what we see is that several young people are unemployed.

Following the same position, the political and social activist, Quitéria Guirengane, affirms that for this to happen, "it is also necessary to have concerted public policies with the youth, to solve their problems.

According to the government, there are several ongoing actions aimed at reaching this goal, among them the Support Fund for Youth Initiatives, the My Kit, My Job Program, and the Emprega Project, "to stimulate youth to participate in the country's development.

However, Elton Chemane, an expert in oil and gas matters, considers that a strong bet on local content, can help in the creation of jobs for young people.

"All Mozambican companies, small, medium and large should have the opportunity to participate in the oil and gas sector, providing services and providing labor," reiterates the expert.
