A rare 101-carat ruby has just been extracted from a mine operated by Fura Mining, in the district of Montepuez, Cabo Delgado province.

According to the newspaper Notícias, the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy states that the gemstone in question is considered to be one of the best gems ever extracted, and has been named Estrela de Fura (Hole Star).

The Fura Star ruby will be put up for private auction next month, and is currently on display in Dubai.

The ministry also explains that after the sale, and in accordance with the law, the government will calculate the corresponding Production Tax.
