IMF is in Mozambique for a five-day mission

A delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) started a five-day visit to Mozambique today, together with local officials.

According to Lusa, which cites a source close to the government, the parties will take to the debate tables several issues of mutual interest

The IMF delegation is headed by Álvaro Piris Chavarres and met today with a team from the Mozambican government led by the minister of economy and finance, Max Tonela.

The parties reportedly discussed issues about development projects in the hydrocarbon sector, social protection, the wage pyramid, money laundering, public probity and Value Added Tax.

According to the same source, the talks may culminate in the signing of a memorandum of understanding, through which Mozambique may benefit from the IMF financial assistance, suspended following the Hidden Debts.

Besides the minister of economy and finance, the Mozambican delegation also included the minister of mineral resources and energy, Carlos Zacarias, minister for gender, children and social action, Nyeleti Mondlane, the vice-ministers of economy and finance, Amilcar Tivane and Carla Louveira, and the vice-minister of justice, constitutional and religious affairs, Filimão Suaze.
