Identity cards (ID) will be issued free of charge as of today, Monday (13), to citizens processing the document for the first time, the government announced in a statement.
A note from the National Directorate of Civil Identification (DNIC), dated November 8, states that "within the scope of the plan to increase the level of coverage of the Identity Card, as part of the EDGE project, the Provincial Civil Identification Services are informed that the first copies of IDs will start to be subsidized, as of November 13, 2023, at all fixed and mobile civil identification posts".
According to the same note, local authorities, namely provincial and district governments, community leaders, as well as other relevant players in the process, should be notified.
"In addition, information on the exemption of the first route should be posted in visible places at the Public Service Office and broadcast on community radio stations," it adds.
According to the authorities, the activity must be monitored on an ongoing basis to ensure the effectiveness of the process and prevent deviant behavior from occurring.
