Empresa Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) has so far counted losses of about five million dollars as a result of the damage caused to its infrastructure in Nampula province by Tropical Cyclone Gombe.
The Director of Revenue Protection and Loss Control at Electricidade de Moçambique, Amilton Álisson, indicated that the data are preliminary, since work is underway to ascertain the total losses.
According to Amilton Álisson who was speaking to Radio Mozambique today, due to the damage caused by bad weather, some districts in the province of Nampula are still without electricity.
"Ilha de Moçambique, Mogincual, Meconta, and Muecate do not have power, but to emphasize that we have generators to give power to the most critical areas or places, such as hospitals. We think that today we will be able to reestablish one or two districts, particularly Mogincual and Muecate. For Mozambique Island we may be able to reestablish power by Saturday at the latest," he said.
