Daniel Francisco Chapo was sworn in today in Maputo's Independence Square as the 5th President of the Republic of Mozambique, elected in the general elections of October 9, 2024.
Daniel Chapo is expected to preside over the country between 2024 and 2030. He succeeds Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, who led the country for ten years, 2015-2020-2025.
The investiture ceremony was presided over by the presiding judge of the Constitutional Council, Lúcia Ribeiro, in the presence of national authorities, including the outgoing president, Filipe Nyusi, and the former presidents of Mozambique, Armando Emílio Guebuza and Joaquim Alberto Chissano.
Chapo received from Ribeiro the symbols of the pode: the constitution, the emblem, the presidential pavilion, the gavel and the flag of the Republic of Mozambique.
