Tropical Cyclone Freddy has left around 3,300 private customers and 26 in the districts of Vilankulo, Inhassouro, Mabote, Massinga and Funhalouro, in the province of Inhambane, without electricity.
A statement from the electricity company Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM) said that Tropical Cyclone Freddy, which made itself felt on Friday (24) with its epicentre in the Vilankulo district of Inhambane province, had left several infrastructures damaged, with 21 medium voltage poles having been knocked down and a transformer substation destroyed.
EDM says that the total cost of repairing the damage caused by Cyclone Freddy in Inhambane is 6,656,000.00 Meticais.
"EDM's technical teams are on the ground, working on the network to gradually restore the system. In the meantime, the weather conditions and the inaccessibility of some locations have been the biggest obstacles and are contributing to the delay in restoring the electricity supply," reads the statement that MZNews had access to.
EDM stresses that despite the damage caused by the storms, the High Voltage Lines and Substations nationwide are stable.
