Frelimo's Central Committee elected Chakil Aboobakar as the party's secretary-general this Friday (14) in an extraordinary session. Chakil Aboobakar replaced Daniel Chapo, who had held the post since May 2024, and who took over the party presidency this Friday, also in place of Filipe Nyusi.

Chakil, who used to be a member of the party's Political Commission, was elected secretary-general with 221 votes, corresponding to 92.47% out of a total of 239 voters.

Chakil Aboobakar has already taken up the post of provincial secretary of the Mozambican Youth Organization (OJM) in Sofala province, the youth arm of Frelimo, and is also a founding member of the Casa do Artista Cultural Association in the city of Beira.

After the election, Aboobakar promised to continue raising the profile of our party. "I will use all my energies to continue raising the profile of our party and of comrade President Daniel Chapo," declared Chakil Aboobakar.
