Ukraine's EU candidacy may have its opinion by June

The European Commission, the executive arm of the European Union, intends to have an opinion by June on Ukraine's application to join the bloc of 27. The information is advanced by Bloomberg news agency, citing sources close to the matter.

Ukraine announced this Monday that it has now completed the questionnaire marking the beginning of the process. The questionnaire in question was delivered by the President of the European Commission herself, Ursula von der Leyen, during her visit to Ukraine on April 8.

Having completed that first phase of the questionnaire, Ukraine says it is already working on the next round of questions for the member state application.

The European Commission has already said it is looking into the process, and a position is expected to be taken at the European Council meeting scheduled for June 23-24, these sources tell Bloomberg.
