World Bank (WB) forecasts indicate that Mozambique's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) could grow by 5% in 2024 and 5% in 2025.
The forecast is optimistic when compared to the 5.5% growth expected by the government, according to the Economic and Social Plan and State Budget for 2024.
However, World Bank estimates still point to growth in the national economy of 6% by 2023, sustained by increased production of liquefied natural gas, coal and aluminum.
Meanwhile, the World Bank report indicates that the region's growth has slowed to around 2.9% in 2023, after the institution's projection of 3.2% in June.
"Growth in sub-Saharan Africa is expected to accelerate to 3.8% in 2024 and firm further to 4.1% in 2025 as inflationary pressures and financial conditions ease," points out the latest World Bank report.
In the three largest economies in the sub-Saharan region, namely Nigeria, South Africa and Angola, growth slowed to an average of 1.8% last year, which slowed growth in the region.
