This morning, in downtown Maputo, a group of unknown citizens kidnapped businessman Sunil Ratilal, owner of Megabyte, an information technology services store.

Information that reached MZNews They say that the crime took place at around 8.30 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. in the vicinity of one of their stores on Joe Slovo Street, in the EMOSE building.

Information is still scarce, but indicates that he was kidnapped on his way to the store. The employees who were already there would not have witnessed the scene.

But the newspaper Sunday describes that the kidnapping was carried out by two hooded and armed men. They forcibly removed him from his car, where he was traveling with his wife. The kidnappers took him away in a gray Toyota Sienta.

The kidnappers fled down Rua do Notícias, which leads to Avenida 25 de Setembro. The crime lasted less than two minutes, writes the newspaper.

The police have yet to comment on the incident.

The last known kidnapping of a businessman or his relatives took place just over two months ago, on August 5, in Maputo city. The victim was a 24-year-old citizen, the son of a businessman.

In the last 12 years, around 150 businesspeople have been kidnapped in Mozambique and a hundred have left the country out of fear, according to figures released recently by the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA).
