The Mozambican territory is one of the priority countries in sub-Saharan Africa that will benefit from the investment of 5.5 billion euros to be disbursed by Italy through the Mattei Plan.
According to the Italian ambassador to Mozambique, the resources of the Mattei Plan are available to all African countries and to entrepreneurs interested in investing in the continent.
Quoted by the Mozambican Information Agency (AIM), Gianni Bardini said that "Mozambique has been identified as one of the seven priority and specific countries for initiatives in the agricultural sector".
"We are going to build an agri-food center in Manica province, near the city of Chimoio [the provincial capital], which should be an incubator to bring Italian [agricultural] technology to Mozambique," he said.
The Mattei Plan funds, which will be distributed through grants, loans and loan guarantees, are intended for agricultural and industrial projects.
Ethiopia, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya and other countries are on the list of priority countries.
Of the 5.5 billion euros, three billion will go towards mitigating the effects of climate change and 2.5 billion will be directed towards development cooperation.
The plan was named after the founder of ENI, the Italian oil and gas giant, Enrico Mattei.
