Terrorism conditions voter registration in Quissanga and Ibo

Terrorismo condiciona recenseamento eleitoral em Quissanga e Ibo

The information was given this Friday, 15.03.2024, by the Provincial Director of the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration STAE, Cassamo Camal, exclusively to Zumbo FM Notícias in the context of the start of the voter registration process for the presidential, legislative and provincial assembly elections to be held on October 9.

Cassamo Camal said that the province was aiming to register 1,500,000 more voters in all districts of the province, except for the districts of Quissanga and Ibo, due to the insecurity caused by the terrorist attacks.

"We've already started work in all the districts, except Quissanga and Ibo. The reason is insecurity problems, that's no secret. I don't know when normality will resume in Quissanga. If the security conditions are right there, we'll rush to register voters, of course. But I can't say when we'll register voters in those districts. We have a target of registering more than one and a half million voters" - said the Provincial Director of STAE Cabo Delgado, Cassamo Camal.

Camal urges all citizens who are 18 years old or older on voting day to turn out en masse at the voter registration offices, and asks for everyone's cooperation during the process.

"We would like to invite voters who will be 18 years of age or older by the date of the election on October 9, 2024, to turn out en masse at the voter registration offices. Those who didn't register in the past should register so that they have the right to vote and be elected." - he said.

Cassamo Camal took the opportunity to call on the authorities at different levels to collaborate.

"I would also like to appeal for the collaboration of the law and order agents, the administrative bodies, the heads of the posts, the localities, as well as the heads of the villages and all the voters in Cabo Delgado province, so that STAE can fulfill its task of registering citizens in this part of the country. Support is also needed for the electoral agents, by which I mean the brigades and civic education agents, so that they can fulfill their role in the process." - said the Provincial Director of STAE.

It should be noted that the decree approved by the government establishes the period from March 15 to April 28 for carrying out the electoral census from scratch in all districts in the national territory, and from March 30 to April 28, 2024, the electoral census abroad.
