New Interior Minister challenged to improve counter-terrorism strategies

The President of the Republic is demanding that the Minister of the Interior, who was sworn in this morning, improve strategies to combat terrorism, organized crime, money laundering and traffic accidents.

Filipe Nyusi, who was speaking a few moments ago at the swearing-in ceremony of Pascoal Pedro João Ronda, demanded that the new minister abide by the values of combating terrorism and violent extremism, combating organized crime including kidnappings and abductions, combating money laundering, cybercrime and environmental crimes.

The Head of State also wants to see the operationalization and modernization of SERNIC, as well as the relentless fight against road accidents.

The new interior minister succeeds Arsénia Massingue, who has headed the Interior Ministry since November 2021.

The President's new bet for the ministry, which has faced enormous challenges, has already held various positions in the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, most notably that of General Commander of the Police.
