The new draft law creating the Sovereign Wealth Fund will be debated tomorrow in the Portuguese Parliament in an extraordinary session. To this end, the government submitted the revised proposal today.
In the new instrument submitted today by the government, all the suggestions from the three parliamentary benches have been taken on board, according to the Minister of Economy and Finance, Max Tonela.
The Minister for the Economy and Finance was heard by the Planning and Budget and Constitutional Affairs and Legality committees on the revision of the document, the debate on which was postponed in May due to a lack of consensus.
One of the points of disagreement in the previous document had to do with the government's refusal to use the 40% revenues from the exploitation of mineral resources, which will be channeled into the Fund, to pay debts.
Max Tonela was quoted by Noticias as saying that the Sovereign Wealth Fund Law, the proposal for which is expected to be approved within the next few days, will also allow for more transparent management of the revenues resulting from the exploitation of the country's natural resources.
