Car accident leaves four dead and seven injured in Maputo province

Acidente de viação faz quatro mortos e sete feridos na província de Maputo

Four people died and seven others were injured in a road accident on Monday in the district of Matutuíne, Maputo province.

The accident occurred due to an irregular overtaking, which caused a collision between two vehicles, Juarce Martins, spokesman for the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) in Maputo province, told Lusa today.

The accident involved a car and a passenger van.

According to the police, the four deaths occurred at the scene and, of the injured, two are in serious condition and seven sustained minor injuries.

Road accident rates in the country are classified as dramatic by various organizations.

The authorities have pointed to speeding and drunk driving as the main causes of accidents.
