"Frelimo Party defends adaptation to new realities," argues Filipe Nyusi

“Partido Frelimo defende adaptação a novas realidades”, defende Filipe Nyusi

Filipe Nyusi, president of the Liberation Front of Mozambique (Frelimo) and also the head of state, argued yesterday that the ruling party must adapt to new contexts at local and international level.

"At the level of the statutes, we want to increasingly perfect the definition of the nature, principles, and working methods of our party, taking into account the new dynamics at an internal and international level," he emphasized.

On the other hand, the revision of Frelimo's program aims to reaffirm "a vision of development focused on building a prosperous and inclusive society," Nyusi said.

The party leader was speaking during the opening of the second extraordinary session of the Central Committee, which met yesterday in Maputo to approve the documents that will be discussed at the organization's 12th congress, which starts in eight days.

The readjustment to new contexts, he continued, has to be reflected in the revision of the program and the statutes of the organization, through a proposal that will be submitted to the 12th congress.

In yesterday's session, the Frelimo Central Committee also considered the proposed regulations for the next congress, the highest organ of the party, he said.

The Central Committee is the most important decision-making body immediately below the congress and, statutorily, will later elect the party's candidate for the presidency in a specific meeting.

The 12th Frelimo Congress is scheduled to take place at the organization's premises in Matola, on the outskirts of Maputo, between September 23 and 28.
