The Mozambican Tax Authority (AT) is strengthening its management mechanisms in order to broaden the base of taxpayers and, consequently, ensure greater fiscal justice in the country.
It is in this context that the institution has recently been implementing fiscal measures aimed at easing the tax burden and softening import costs as a way to expand the resilience of companies to shocks and ensure their financial stability.
On Tuesday, in Maputo, the institution launched a portal, a platform through which the tax administration intends to have a dynamic interaction with potential taxpayers.
Speaking at the launch, the president of the AT, Amélia Muendane explained that the portal opens up the possibility of bringing investors closer to the tax administration, since the mechanism allows interested parties to carry out a number of tax operations using the internet without the need to go to the tax offices.
"At this stage, the Portal already ensures remote communication between the AT and the taxpayer in the areas of registration, submission of VAT and ISPC returns, management of the current account, request for the discharge certificate, consultation of the tax situation and simulation of tax calculation," he said.
On the occasion, the president stressed the need to improve the management of the fiscal portfolio, especially taking into account the relevant weight that small investments have in the productive chain of the country.
"Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises contributed, for example, last year 43.48 percent of total tax revenue compared to 56.52 percent for large enterprises. This is an indicator that signals the importance of small investments," he said.
Amélia Muendane reiterated the need to incorporate into the national tax system all those who are not yet part of it, remembering that the taxpayer is the key to the success of public policies for intervening directly in the productive sector.
"It also provides income that is spread throughout the economic chain, stimulating household consumption and the functioning of the state," he said.
