The multinational technology company, Google said it aims to achieve zero emissions across all operations and value chain by 2030, stressing that it intends to reduce most of them before that date.
"Our new goal is to achieve net zero emissions across our operations and value chain by 2030. We aim to reduce the majority of our emissions (compared to the 2019 starting point) before 2030. This goal covers scopes 1, 2 and 3, including achieving 24/7 CFE Energy by 2030 - one of the most ambitious energy goals," a senior source at the company said, as quoted by News to the Minute.
Google's source adds that the company has "clearly defined the scope of our climate commitments and we regularly report on our progress in our Annual Sustainability Report, where data on energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions is assured by Ernst & Young. We have long recognized that operational carbon neutrality through a combination of 100% renewable energy and high-quality offsetting is just one step on our sustainability path."
The pronouncements from the online services and software multinational, Google, come after two climate advocacy organizations released a report that most large multinational companies were falsely claiming to be reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
