Meet the solar-powered bamboo water cab

Hari Pontoon, is the water cab made of bamboo, developed by English design studio Duffy London. Easy to build and inexpensive, bamboo is strong enough to support the weight of the passengers - similar to the strength of fiberglass and carbon fiber.

"We wanted to make a sustainable vessel that was extremely practical, spacious and safe," says Duffy London founder Chris Duffy, quoted by Green Severs.

The transport medium runs on a single solar-powered electric motor and produces up to 60 horsepower and a speed ranging from 8 to 10 knots (up to 18 kilometers per hour). "We believe that a craft made of 98% bamboo, 2% solar power and a battery can outperform the most modern models," says Duffy.

The project to create Hari Pontoon came out of a collaboration between Duffy London and the Living Waters hotel chain, which is planning a venture in Indonesia - where boats are an essential means of transportation to support the local economy and connect communities.

Hari's low maintenance costs and near-zero operating costs offer customers a viable, clean energy transportation alternative.
