Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has announced a plan to guarantee its production autonomy using solar energy by 2024. The company will deploy 31,000 solar panels, estimated at 88 million US dollars, which are expected to supply 30% of the assembly plant's electricity needs.

In the near future, the company will equip the assembly plant in Pretoria with a 13.5 MWp solar system, which will be built by supplier SolarAfrica.

"The Blue Oval project in South Africa will set a benchmark for Ford Motor Company's goal of using 100 percent locally sourced renewable energy for all of its factories worldwide by 2035," said, Andrea Cavallaro, group operations manager, Ford International Markets.
