Euro zone goes from surplus to external trade deficit of 34.4 billion euros in September

The euro zone recorded a deficit of 34.4 billion euros in its international trade in goods, compared to a year-on-year surplus of 6.7 billion, Eurostat reported today.

According to data released today by the statistical service of the European Union (EU) and cited by Lusa, in September, exports of goods from the euro zone to the rest of the world increased by 23.6% to 259.6 billion, compared to the same month in 2021.

Imports of goods, on the other hand, increased by 44.5% to 294 billion euros.

In the EU, the foreign trade balance of goods saw the deficit worsen to 45.8 billion, from 300 million euros in September 2021.

EU goods exports advanced 24% to 232 billion, and imports rose 48.2% to a total of 277.8 billion.
