LAM flight fails two takeoff attempts with about 40 passengers on board

Flight TM 144 of Mozambique Airlines (LAM) interrupts its journey from Maputo to Quelimane due to a technical error identified during the flight, which had more than 40 passengers on board on June 20.

It seems that not even the new management committee, led by the South African company Fly Modern Ark, has managed to find solutions to the technical and operational problems that LAM has been facing over the months.

The CDD writes that after two hours of repairs, the flight was given a second attempt but failed again, forcing the company to cancel the flight, amid much pressure and discontent from the 40 or so passengers.

Also according to CDD, the flight was scheduled to depart at 12:00 on June 20 from Maputo, with arrival in Quelimane scheduled for 14:05. However, 30 minutes before departure, a delay was announced, changing the departure time to 16:50.

"At the appointed time (16h50), the flight to Quelimane finally left. But what initially appeared to be just a delayed flight turned out to be a frightening moment. Minutes after take-off, the pilot informed us that he had to return to Maputo International Airport, as he had identified an error on the plane in mid-flight," reads the CDD publication.

With no aircraft available to make the replacement, the publication says, the faulty aircraft underwent technical work, which led LAM to announce a postponement of the departure time, this time to 7pm, something that didn't happen as the problems persisted.
