Venâncio Mondlane refuses Frelimo's millionaire proposals to become a 'comrade' again

Venâncio Mondlane recusa propostas milionárias da Frelimo para voltar a ser ‘camarada’

Venâncio Mondlane, a member of parliament and former speaker of the Renamo parliamentary caucus, revealed on Monday (22) that since leaving the Frelimo party he has been enticed by his comrades' party to return home.

In an interview with Success TVMondlane said that he refused all promises of material goods, high positions or social prestige and salaries in order to have a wealthy financial life. He even revealed that Frelimo's most recent onslaught took place last Saturday (20).

"Being Frelimo's boyfriend has always been the common denominator since I got into politics in 2013, and to this day I'm still its boyfriend. Even the day before yesterday [Saturday 20th] they called me to give me a series of offers, as they say, if I wanted to come home," he said.

He explained that although he has been through many parties (Frelimo, Movimento Democrático de Moçambique, and currently Renamo) his fight is a one-way street, always forward.

"I believe that right now my path is irreversible and I'm not going back. What's left is left. My path is forward," he stressed. "Positions, benefits and honors, all that has already been put on the table for me."

He clarified that at no time did he aim to achieve material goods through politics, not least because he gave up his banking career before his journey of almost 25 years.

"When I left the life I had before to go into politics, I was always at the highest point of my career. In the financial system, in 2013, I was part of the largest credit council of one of the largest financial institutions in the country," he said, noting that his current salary is equivalent to 2/3 of what he received at the bank.
