The son of the first President of the Republic of Mozambique, Samora Machel Jr. admitted this Monday (03) that he is interested in the position of Frelimo secretary-general to be chosen at the extraordinary meeting of the ruling party's Central Committee scheduled for February 14.

According to Samora Machel Jr., who was speaking at the celebrations for Mozambican Heroes' Day at Heroes' Square in Maputo, "Mozambique needs proper health, proper education, food security, job opportunities and an improvement in the living conditions of Mozambicans because if Mozambicans have their living conditions improved, they are at peace".

"Those are the premises for being secretary-general of the Frelimo party, I'm interested," said the son of the country's first President of the Republic in response to journalists, challenging everyone "to make Mozambique our own".

Machel Jr. added that if "this doesn't happen, the country won't move forward", asking for support for the new government.

According to a VOAFor now, the potential candidates for the post of party secretary-general, currently held by Daniel Chapo, who will take over the presidency of Frelimo at the Central Committee meeting, are unknown. That body will have to appoint the party's new secretary-general.
