Venâncio Mondlane demands accountability from the Angolan state and calls for a "Day of Shame" to be declared

Venâncio Mondlane pede responsabilização do Estado angolano e pede decretação do “Dia Vergonha”

Mozambican politician Venâncio Mondlane today urged the international community, especially the Angolan one, to press ahead with a demand for accountability from the Angolan state.

"I commend UNITA [National Union for the Total Independence of Angola] and the entire delegation that was there, the SADC delegations [Southern African Development Community] alternatives, human rights, that the Angolan state should be prosecuted. The Angolan state must be prosecuted. This can't go on like this...We can't let these kinds of acts perpetuate on our continent" he appealed.

Among other things, Mondlane accuses the Angolan state of breaking the rules by not following the national migration protocol, the SADC protocol and bilateral cooperation protocols to stop people entering Angolan soil.  Read more...

For what happened at Luanda Airport on February 4, the former presidential candidate called on the Angolan people and activists to decree March 13 as the "Day of Shame".

"Activists, let's declare March 13, Public Shame Day in Angola, so that our children and grandchildren know who these people are who have shamed Angola's image around the world," he urged.

Mondlane was speaking during a broadcast on one of his social media pages, where he tried to present the contours of what happened yesterday at February 4 Airport.
