Venâncio Mondlane challenges Frelimo to present original edicts and minutes to the Constitutional Council

Venâncio Mondlane desafia a Frelimo a apresentar editais e actas originais ao Conselho Constitucional

The Frelimo party must present to the Constitutional Council (CC) the original notices and minutes that it obtained from the polling stations and which guaranteed its victory in the Maputo municipality.

This is the position expressed today by the head of the Renamo party's list for the Maputo municipality, Venâncio Mondlane, as part of yet another march to contest the election results in the municipality.

For Mondlane, this would be the fairest and most equitable way to solve these problems "once and for all".

"The only issue we're complaining about is that the Constitutional Council has to use the principle of equity or equality of circumstances. Therefore, in the same way that it asked the CNE and the MDM political party for the notices, I think it's also time to ask the Frelimo party," suggested Mondlane, quoted by STV.

He believes that the Frelimo party, as the party most interested in validating its alleged victory in the Maputo municipality, should take the original notices and minutes to the CC.

"The Frelimo Party, which claims to be the winner, is the most interested in defending its victory, and should also present the minutes and notices it received at the table to the Constitutional Council itself," he said.

For Mondlane, only with the original documents can the CC validate the results, and Renamo's congratulations will be complete.

"If the Constitutional Council does this, I think that the congratulations we are giving now, which are partial, will be complete. So let the Frelimo party present minutes and notices at the polling stations immediately after the partial tabulation," he challenged.

Meanwhile, Renamo's deputy in the Assembly of the Republic said that his party remains hopeful of positive results from the CC's instructions.

"We have always defended the idea that the notices and minutes that were received at the polling stations are the fundamental primary evidence to prove the truth of the electoral facts. So when the Constitutional Council does this, it does exactly what we've been calling for all along," he clarified.
