More than two thousand people from the districts of Dondo, Búzi and Nhamatanda, in Sofala, affected by natural disasters, will benefit from the climate change resilient reconstruction project to be implemented in the new settlement areas.
The project, launched this Tuesday in Beira City, will absorb more than 10 million dollars in funding from the United States Agency for International Development - USAID.
Speaking during the project launch, USAID's representative in Mozambique, Magie Notman, said that the initiative to be implemented in the districts of Dondo, Búzi and Nhamatanda, also includes the construction of various public infrastructures.
According to UNI-HABTAT's representative in Mozambique, Sandra Roque, the process of families' withdrawal to safe areas will follow a territorial approach integrated to the communities' socio-economic development.
The secretary of state of Sofala province, Stela Pinto Zeca, called for more interaction between partners and members of the district governments to find ways to persuade the population to leave the risk zones permanently.
