Ukraine: WFP raises money from private initiative for humanitarian aid

The World Food Program, (WFP), is raising funds from private enterprise to bring humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The campaign will target billionaires, businesses, and civil society. The announcement was made on Tuesday at the South Carolina state government's headquarters in the United States.

According to PMA Executive Director David Beasley, this is the time for each individual to play their part in transforming the world. Beasley recalled that there are several initiatives from large and small companies, often driven by employees.

The WFP representative believes that this is just the beginning of the crisis and we will need to prepare for the "long and difficult road ahead."

Thus, the UN agency states that in addition to the operation already underway in Ukraine and the impact on neighboring countries, the war has caused overall operational costs to increase and have an immediate impact on the poorest and most vulnerable countries.

According to the most recent WFP data, food is one of the top three concerns of people affected by the violence in Ukraine. The estimate is that about 45% are concerned about having enough food.

The WFP says that one in five people are already reducing the size and number of meals eaten, eating less, and sacrificing meals so that children can eat.

The agency's recent assessment indicates that food shortages over the next three months could affect more 40% of Ukrainians.
